Angela\u00a0received her\u00a0BS\u00a0in nutrition science\u00a0from the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). Angela\u00a0volunteered in\u00a0the\u00a0UNLV\u00a0Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition\u00a0Sciences\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0Body Image and Multiculturalism Lab for the Department of Psychology\u00a0editing research publications and\u00a0transcribing interviews with eating pathology clients.<\/p>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][vc_column][vc_column_text]Angela was awarded the Nevada Idea Network of Biochemical Research\u00a0Excellence\u00a0scholarship and presented her\u00a0nutrition\u00a0research at the South West\u00a0College of Sports Medicine\u00a0Conference.\u00a0\u00a0She\u00a0completed her dietetic internship\u00a0through UNLV\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0University Medical Center\u00a0and the University of Nevada Reno Cooperative Extension\u00a0(UNCE)\u00a0and was awarded\u00a0the\u00a0Outstanding Dietetic Intern Award and Scholarship.<\/p>\n

While in her internship,\u00a0 Angela was hired\u00a0by\u00a0UNCE\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0Healthy Steps\u00a0to Freedom\u00a0Program\u00a0that\u00a0provided\u00a0health and wellness education\u00a0in several correctional and rehabilitation facilities\u00a0to\u00a0adolescent and adult\u00a0females\u00a0identified as\u00a0high risk for\u00a0eating pathology.\u00a0After\u00a0becoming an RD, Angela volunteered\u00a0for the\u00a0WestCare\u00a0Foundation\u00a0where she provided\u00a0pro bono nutrition consults\u00a0and referrals for higher levels of care\u00a0for women with eating disorders.\u00a0Angela\u00a0then went into\u00a0inpatient psychiatric\u00a0care\u00a0providing behavioral health nutrition care, treatment, and services\u00a0for all stages of the life cycle\u00a0on the\u00a0pediatric, adolescent, adult,\u00a0geriatric,\u00a0and\u00a0chemical\u00a0dependency\u00a0units\u00a0as well as for the outpatient pediatric and\u00a0adolescent autism program.<\/p>\n

While earning a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and a Master of Science (MS) in Clinical Nutrition, she went into clinical eating disorders working all levels of care. While at the UCSD Eating Disorders Center for Treatment and Research, Angela worked with a family-based therapy (FBT) model and an individual-based therapy (IFT) model at Rady Children\u2019s Hospital one-week intensives where she enjoyed expanding her work from the patient to including their families as part of the treatment team. Angela has experience in Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), Anorexia Nervosa (AN), Bulimia Nervosa (BN), and Binge Eating Disorder (BED) and their subtypes as well as disordered eating in athletes. Besides primary eating disorders, Angela has experience with gastrointestinal conditions as well as food allergies or intolerances and understands the unique nutritional and eating disorder implications. Additionally, she has experience in bariatric surgery medical nutrition therapy and has developed a curriculum for a bariatric program and has taught bariatric surgery classes as well as a bariatric support group at Kaiser Permanente and understands the unique physiological and psychological issues pre and post-bariatric surgery.<\/p>\n

Angela has engaged in several \u2018on-sites\u2019 at eating disorder clinics throughout the country to better understand treatment options and the broader eating disorder treatment network. Additionally, she regularly attends conferences and stays current on evidence-based research and treatment. Angela understands the unique ways in which eating disorders develop and are experienced physiologically and psychologically and provides evidence-based medical nutrition therapy with an individualized approach using mindful eating and\/or intuitive eating principles. Angela helps patients cultivate a healthy relationship with eating, exercise, and self-efficacy to support eating recovery.<\/p>\n
